Squaring the Circle


This (hand)sculpture is a visual allusion to the ancient geometers quest to square the circle using only compass and straightedge.
That was a 2 dimensional exercise,I have here extrapolated and represented the idea in a three dimensional format.

It has been subsequently proven in 1882 to be an impossible task though many have come close.

To me it serves as an example of certain vain efforts and quests that in spite of the fact that they can never be solved completely ,have nevertheless a TRANS FORMATIVE or transcendental effect on the seeker and thus serve an enlightening function anyway.

Sort of teaches one to redirect focus on process rather than outcome…
