It is meant to be a talismanic device for navigation in out-of-the-body-experiences and/or three dimensional space... Welded stainless steel-all recycled scrap.

Squaring the Circle(lrg)

Here's the large iteration of my current Sacred Geometry theme of "Squaring the Circle" (but in three dimensions). The ancient geometers exercise is here transformed to three dimensional spherical geometry and ALLUDES to the cube and sphere intersected of equal volume. I say alludes because it's close but perhaps not EXACT...like the original exercise... Plasma cut silicon bronze plate welded DIRECTLY to laser cut stainless steel cold-formed concave discs. I had a whole day last week at one of my industrial suppliers and they let me use their 100 ton press all day long without any interruptions...I pressed a whole bunch of these stainless discs of varying diameters into nearly perfect concave shapes of several radius's using my selection of dies. I was high as a kite when I got home ,knowing these parts are the raw material for sculptures for the next 6 months... All the discs are recycled scrap from laser cutting.

Pine Cone(in bronze)

Here's the first iteration and result of a design problem I've been mulling over for a couple of months,namely how to FABRICATE,(as opposed to casting), a pine cone with reasonable accuracy. I eventually realized a good stock reproducible shape to start with would be PUNCH PARTS. So I considered my industrial connections and got access to a wonderful old 65 ton J.C.Whitney punch. On a Saturday I took over two plates,one of 3/16ths silicon bronze (which this piece is made from), and a stainless plate which was 1/8th inch thick.I've used an oval punch to make these petal like shapes... I'm reasonably pleased with this piece,but obviously some of the details can get refined if I go further. Welded silicon bronze-height 3" The pine cone exhibits some rather incredible Sacred Geometry characteristics. The petals are configured in controposto radiating spirals like the seeds of a sunflower head,and the RATIO of the left hand spirals to right hand spirals almost always follows the FIBONACCI SEQUENCE. This arrangement of petals allows for the MAXIMUM surface area (for respiration) with the MINIMUM of organic material...almost as if it was DIVINELY engineered ,thus we have the term Sacred Geometry.

I sold this piece a month ago to a dot-commer who plans to use it as an entrance ornament to his large (300 people) camp at BURNING MAN called Root Society. I've just spent the last few days making it presentable. I formed little hemispherical caps with a die on my press and have welded them on each of the vertices to accent the structure,and polished the column top to bottom. I don't know how he's going to get this thing back to his house on Cape Cod but when he does, it will be (hopefully)something like this with the ocean in the background. Welded stainless steel-height 10 ft.

Since I've had no commissions lately,I kicked this out in the last three days tapping my stockpiled materials. All recycled steel. Height to top is 12.5 feet. Diameter of rings 9 ft. 3 inches. The rings are 3x3 angle and were rolled "mistakes " from the rolling mill. I bought a truckload a couple of years ago and am slowly making my way through the stack. Only 12 bolts hold the whole structure together. It is quite stout. One can easily climb all over it with no loss of structural integrity. Notice the pre-drilled holes in the top ring. That is for mounting add-on trellises for planting vines at each of the "corners".Not sure yet what the trellises will look like ... This is a rather large PENDENTIVE GAZEBO. The pendentive, you may remember, was a device used by Roman builders to support domes in masonry construction, but the Byzantine architects were the ones who truly perfected it. One of the finest examples being the classic Ottoman Mosque of Hagia Sofia in Istanbul. The pendentives, which are triangular segments of a sphere, taper to points at the bottom and spread at the top to establish the continuous circular or elliptical base needed for the dome. In masonry the pendentives thus receive the weight of the dome, concentrating it at the four corners where it can be received by the piers beneath.

Pocket Attenuator Here's another version of "Squaring the Circle" ,again in three dimensions,in a size that's portable. Welded,cold formed, stainless steel. These two complimentary Sacred Geometry shapes(CUBE and SPHERE) with (nearly) identical volumes,when intersected, cause a subtle but palpable energy resonation. Sort of like a reset button. I know the words I've used to describe this effect are sort of vague and New Age. I'm sorry but I have No Idea what's going on on the "scientific" level. But this does not mean it isn't a perceptible phenomena...or that I don't know what I'm feeling... I found this effect quite by accident,following my intuition and curiosity as I study Sacred Geometry (by making models and exploring shapes). But I am convinced that the ancients who devised the exercises and other common problems for Geometers,(and the model making),did so with a clear understanding that the knowledge could be passed without mitigation by the intellect. They were/are problems to ponder under ones own tutelage and self study and could be accomplished in isolation. Spatial understanding is not dependent on language,so the perception of relationships of shape and structure can progress without the usual feedback of discussion. I believe science is on the verge of understanding that there is a relationship between SHAPE (holding space),and the energy field it can create,a further connection will be made by adding particular and specific sound congruences to the equation. there may be a time in the not-too-distant-future when certain sounds may be utilized to reorganize matter(sic). Creation and or destruction (of physical matter)may be accomplished by the manipulation of energy through shape configurations coupled with sound. My intuition tells me this conceptual knowledge was known in the remote past and that we are on the verge of relearning it... This piece is available for purchase. Please note me for pricing.
