Hi, as a newbie this is my first posting. As a guitarist, I have been working on some odd scales and chords. As a way to to put them together on paper to make some sense - at least to me- somehow I came up with a three sided pyramid (4 if you count the base). It seemed to organise the chords and scales at each of the 4 corners in a way that i can "see" how the slightly different variations fitted together. In addition, there is a scale that fits all 4 corners (if you include the apex) that joins up from all sides into the middle.
Although it seems just like a convenient way to organise ideas into workable integrated units, I wondered if anyone had any comments as a geometric idea, and if there is anything "out there" of any similar structure. It may not be connected, but outside ideas can always be useful to trigger inner ones that were not there before in a way that may be creative and useful. If this is any use for anyone to take the idea and run with it, please feel free to do so. It came out of the air, so to speak, so lets see where the wind of mind takes it!
Be very interested in comments,
all the very best to everyone,
Mike

Re: Three sided pyramid (?)
Fri, May 8, 2009 - 5:51 PMHi mike,
As I'm sure you are aware *Since you are posting here* musical structure and geometric structure are essentially different frames of reference of the same ideas (at least to me)...
Perhaps you can explain in more detail the idea you are exploring? a picture maybe?
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Three sided pyramid (?)
Sat, May 9, 2009 - 3:27 PMIt sounds reasonable that cord progressions would fit nicely into a pyrimid... I never thought about it like that and maybe you are onto the harmonics of the pyrimid. I remember this one guy that studied the pyrimids at Giza(forgot his name) but he said that the walkways and all openings all produced certain frequecies and that these deep tones that were lower than human hearing had profound effects of the human psyche. All said, I believe everything is energy and mathmatics and geopmetry can explain the universe. I would like to see the structure of your cords for I play a little guitar myself and would like to see how you got it to fit together....
