Does anyone know the significance of the octagram? Recently found a number of old glass panels covered in 8-pointed stars, and am curious about the best way to consciously incorporate them into sustainable architecture. Knowing the meaning and history of the octagram would be very helpful. Many thanks!!!

Re: Seeking info on 8-pointed star, or octagram
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 7:05 PMGoogle octagram Trent,
there's tons of stuff, history ,lore, use in decorative arts etc...
Can you post a picture of what you have ?
90% of my decorative arts pieces are made with recycled metal so I have some experience to lend ideas ,but I need to see what your stuff looks like to give you the best suggestions of how you might utilize it to it's highest potential...
with respect,

Re: Seeking info on 8-pointed star, or octagram
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 12:56 AMI was wondering about the octagon the other week whilst I was looking for stills from “2001 A Space Odyssey”. That particular film is full of symbolism so I wondered what this scene was all about: people.tribe.net/patrick-b...4e586c54c1
The 8 is a circle locked! The picture I linked to above shows a person walking through an airlock. We are bound to earth imprisoned by our need for air (an airlock). Freeing ourselves from our prison means we will have unlocked a gateway. All this is happening as we transition into the Aquarian age. The 8 is also 2 x 4, the intersecting tetrahedrons which form the cube (see also hexagram). Perhaps the key the gateway and the transition are all aspects of the current planetary initiation? -

Re: Seeking info on 8-pointed star, or octagram
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 9:48 AMPatrick,
I am building a Genesa Crystal, just to see if all the hype has any merits.
I stumbled upon it while looking at other Sacred Geometry images on Google.
8 is very significant with this structure and it has been described as a portal...
Apparently at the 8 cell stage of development ,ALL living creatures are identical.
And the 8 cell stage has an identifiable Scared Geometry shape that acts as a filter and also as an amplifier.
Since I've been working with the sphere in its many iterations,I guess I would found this thing eventually.
Basically the shape is derived by 4 interlocking rings describing the surface of a sphere (much like an armillary).
I suggest you Google Genesa Crystals and get the full scoop. -

Re: Seeking info on 8-pointed star, or octagram
Wed, April 23, 2008 - 9:37 PMoctagons seem to be popping up a lot these days.
the 8 directions has obvious synchromystical connections with
the I Ching 8 Hexagrams, Infinity, DNA
8x8=64 Chess Squares and
the Green Go Sign~
I imagine an Octagonal Building with a Pyramidal Point at its Top
would be a Very Special Place.
Perhaps symbolizing the 8 Major Belief Systems
as well as the 8 directions....

from a taoist perspective
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 6:09 AMthe compass, the pa-qua...the 8 directions in which movements can/will flow in nature. (up/down, within/without, left/right, front/back)
the i ching, tao te ching, traditional chinese medicine, the art of war, the art of peace all incorporate the 5 forces of nature/energy. each element has a direction associated with it. they forecasting and guidance system/belief/philosophy to bring about the most prosperous outcomes and to avoid misfortunes. the thought being is that if the course is heading in a negative direction, locating currant position and changing in accordance to the desired positive direction will result in harmony/health/balance/victory.
when posed with a quandery, usually find myself asking: wikisan, googlesan, nani deska...?
they are wise sages of knowledge on the internet and are better able to explain/show things in detail ;)

Re: from a taoist perspective
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 2:26 PMthis shape is special...
the eight pointed star is composed of two interlocking tetrahedrals.. it is also the shape produced if a sphere turn itself inside out...
my recent youtube presentations are completed by the creation of an eight pointed (dimension) 'star'
this star is similarly the lower two worlds of the ten sefriot which I regard as a two dimensional representation of the eight pointed star
uk.youtube.com/watch
there are two presentations prior to this and one following..
uk.youtube.com/watch
uk.youtube.com/watch
uk.youtube.com/watch
the last one is significant

Re: from a taoist perspective
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 10:14 AMGreenman, I watched all 4 youtube video's in the series posted, with great interest and excitement, as it resonated vibrantly. However, when I got to your warning, it did not feel right. I know of the project which you are referring to. However, I question whether "we" (mankind) would really be allowed to go through with it, if it trully had an impact on the whole universe. Also, with life as abundant as it is in the universe, I find it hard to believe that "we" are the first to attempt this. Perhaps higher intelligences know that "they" will not succeed in their endevours and so do not step in.
These were just my thoughts while watching your last (part 4) clip.

Re: from a taoist perspective
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 9:04 PMCool videos Green Man.
I liked the morphing of shapes,
very interesting ideas....
esp. the sephiroth-tree-trinity color concept.
I wanted to share with you an octagon-related thread from another tribe:
butterflypeople.tribe.net/threa...7d9437
the octagon has been of interest to me beginning with meditations on the
8 directions, but leading into
possibilities of the Green GO sign,
the 8 of the I Ching,,,,
and other strangeness,
as well as the
Knights Templar Cross which is an 8 pointed cross....

Re: from a taoist perspective
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 4:53 PMhi lu, arron,
glad you enjoye the vids... given present circumstances they are the best I can reasonably do.. I would have liked to have used more complex shapes and added recursive aspects to demonstrate how the 'pattern' repeats but unfortunately the nimber of components increases the processor usage to such an extent that everything all but grinds to a halt.
that said all the images use the same basic mathematics... ternary logic (balanced ternary) and the integer sequence 1,1,4,13,43 (although it may not always be clear... ) in addition base 60 (the numerical base of time) and Phi (all the spirals are log spirals) are used.
time though is a difficult concept to represent mathematically since we don't stick to base 60 outside of seconds and minutes... shorter intervals are in base 10 (i.e tenths, hundreds) and longer intervals first are in base 12/24 (day), then 7(week) , ..months..years... they don't neatly devide into each other.. but the ancient sumarians (or the civilization they got base 60 from) definately knew something about 60 as an important base for measuring time
all the videos are my attempt to recreate the images 'given'/ shown to me by "the lights" at Pushkar and lake Pushkar in Rajastan Indian (Feb/March 2005) .. Lake Pushkar is a very special place, it is a Holy City, dedicated to Brahma (I also aver it to be the well of Abraham, for Abraham is Brahma.. the story is too lomg to explain here but there is evidence to suggest that a race of people called the Sarasvats (Sarahs children?) bought the concept of El Shaddai to Kashmir some 3000-4000y BP to the Neelam Valley... El Shaddai has since become Sharda ( a female rather than male name for G-d).. These people were 'aragant' (accounts from the current inhabitants) and had written language... they came to dominate and called themselves Brahmins.. these people were one of the the lost tribes of the Israelites... its a contentious view but one I hope to be in a position to provide evidence for in the near future. ..
its a long story but I have recorded it as a book (Connectivity) www.lulu.com/mj_mcewen
as regards the final part all I can say is this.. at Pushkar the lights gave me an impression/feeling that something was putting a lot of careful plans at risk... It took me a while and a lot of help from the lights to realize it was CERN... but they don't like and nor I would aver should any of us...
CERN may or may not collapse the universe...
lets say they don't.. lets say they learn something about the early part of the universe... what do you. I or any of the other 6.5 billion inhabitants (human) of this planet gain from it???
I would aver abasolutely nothing... it won't feed, fix or house anyone.. it won't solve a single problem yet it risks create an enormous potenrially catastrophic problem.... A black hole in the middle of a mountain in the centre of Europe....
you don't have to be an Einstein to realize that the risk is far far far greater than the gains... only a fool risks everything and only madmen risk someone elses without their consent...
did you or anyone reading this consent to having your universe collapsed... at the very least the planet we all depend on... who ask our consent... no one... and Ifor one am not granting it....
CERN is dangerous... even if it doesnt create a black hole, and it is both a prediction of Hawkins and an intention of the project todo just that it may develop weapon more powerful than any nuclear bomb... do we really needs this.. is this a risk any of us want to take?
No it is not...
CERN may not collapse the universe... but I#d rather it remained a theoretical possiblility rather find out for sure

perhaps the project is innocent but we may well find out the hard and tottally unacceptable way ... or we may experience our world being crushed into nothing...

Re: from a taoist perspective
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 2:41 AM"The ATLAS collaboration will focus now on commissioning work in preparation for the start-up of the LHC this summer. Experiments at the LHC will allow physicists to take a big leap on a journey that started with Newton's description of gravity. Gravity is ubiquitous since it acts on mass, but so far science is unable to explain why particles have the masses they have. Experiments such as ATLAS may provide the answer. LHC experiments will also probe the mysterious dark matter and energy of the Universe, they will investigate the reason for nature's preference for matter over antimatter, probe matter as it existed close to the beginning of time and look for extra dimensions of spacetime." -

Re: from a taoist perspective
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 11:42 AMyes orpheous,
it won't however provide any benefits to man nor beast yet carries a very real risk of collapsing the universe... which none of us have consented too..

Re: from a taoist perspective
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 1:12 PMI'm not actually aware of anything in the universe ever asking my consent about anything...
I think the imminent collapse of the universe is probably as valid an event as any other...
actually it's kind of amazing that a bunch of deranged apes should exist at all and that they should somehow manage to get it together to collapse the universe...
just wish I had some weed so I could give that thought the wow it deserves... hahaha -

Re: from a taoist perspective
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 3:21 PMsorry orpheus you seem to have missed the point...
we are not talking about the universe collapsing itself but a bunch of misguided and egotistic scientist living in a large expensive hole not very far from you... its called CERN and the project is the LHC....
sorry

Re: from a taoist perspective
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 12:48 AMSome interesting points orpheus. You simultaneously raise a question of causality and personal responsibility. To be fair I have had "things" in the universe ask me for my consent. :)
Every event is valid I think. We might not be super happy about some events, but how could we argue that an event is not valid? I agree with Your point. -

Re: from a taoist perspective
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 1:24 AMI guess I'm generally disempowered and easygoing but for lots of stuff on many levels if my consent were required I wouldn't give it but the fact is the world seems to go about it's sordid business as if I weren't even there... hahaha
